Oct. 23: Marlene Grossnickle Young donates rare Frederick book

Monday, October 23, 2017

FREDERICK, Maryland—Marlene Grossnickle Young, a 1976 Hood College alumna and member of the Board of Trustees, presented Hood President Andrea Chapdelaine with a rare book on Oct. 20.

The book is a 90-year-old, 1927 First Edition copy of “The Life of Thomas Johnson” by Judge Edward S. Delaplaine. It has 77 signers, including former Hood president Andrew G. Truxal (served 1948-1961) and various professors at Hood College of that time, including Frederick D. Eddy, Wayne C. Neely and James B. Ranck. Also among the signers are two brothers of the author, namely George B. Delaplaine Sr. and William T. Delaplaine, both of whom have strong familial ties to Hood College.

“It gives me great joy to present this book to Hood College so that it may ‘come home’ so to speak,” said Young.
