April 7: Hood music ensembles perform spring recitals

 FREDERICK, Md.—Seven Hood College music ensembles will present four end-of-the-semester concerts in April. 

The Early Music Ensemble, directed by Williams Simms, will perform the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance on period instruments.

The combined string and wind ensembles, under the direction of RoseAnn Markow Lester and Brian Hinkley, will be in concert Thursday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Coffman Chapel. Each ensemble will perform several selections and then the combined groups will present Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain."

The Hood Choral Festival, scheduled for Sunday, May 1 at 3 p.m. in Coffman Chapel will include four ensembles. The Hood Choir, and The Chamber Singers, directed by Lynn Staininger; The Gospel Ensemble, directed by Demetrius Taylor; and the student-led a capella choir, directed by Jennifer Huntoon will perform individually and then as a massed choir.

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of J. Kevin Lewis, will perform a selection of jazz favorites Wednesday, May 4 at 7:30 in Coffman Chapel.

All concerts are free and open to the public.
