July 2: Two new members elected to board of trustees

FREDERICK, Md.—Two Hood College alumni and area business executives were recently elected to four-year terms on the college's board of trustees.

Mark E. Friis is president and CEO or Rodgers Consulting, Inc., a land planning, natural resources and site development firm with offices in Germantown and Frederick, Md. The award-winning firm has been recognized for creativity of design and regulatory entitlement solutions for numerous urban communities, urban infill and redevelopment projects and mixed-use employment centers.

Friis also serves on the board of directors of Sandy Spring Bancorp. He has been on numerous civic, nonprofit and building industry boards, as well as state and local government task forces and committees. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and is a graduate of Leadership Maryland, which identifies leaders in the state and provides a yearlong program that presents and discusses the current issues, challenges and opportunities facing the state and its diverse regions.

He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in public affairs at Hood in 1982.

Susan L. Whaley, president of Mid-Atlantic Realty, Inc., has more than 30 years of real estate development experience. Established in 1992, the company develops single tenant triple-net leased properties and is the preferred developer for Rite Aid Corporation and for Patient First in Central Pennsylvania. She is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

She earned a bachelor's degree from Hood in 1974 and juris doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law. She has been admitted to the Maryland bar.

Originally from Baltimore, Whaley resides in Gettysburg, Pa.
