June 9: Gallery exhibit features sculptural, functional pottery

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

FREDERICK, Md.--The second of four graduate ceramic arts student exhibitions will be displayed in the Hodson Gallery in the Tatem Arts Center at Hood College June 18 through July 5.

A reception for both exhibits, including talks by the artists, will be June 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hodson Gallery, which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"Containing the Spirit" will showcase the functional and sculptural pottery vessels of Jim Champion. Two series--cityscapes created from earthenware, stoneware and porcelain, and functional vessels--comprise the exhibit.

"Line in Use" showcases functional pieces created by Lisa York of Gaithersburg, Md. Her linear pieces incorporate thrown and cut slabs that are twisted and stretched, then finished with soft glazes in shades of black, white and brown.

For more information about the exhibits, contact Milana Braslavsky, curator of the Hodson Gallery, by e-mail at
