Oct. 29: Safe Harvest

FREDERICK, Md.—A student-run celebration that includes an opportunity for area children and their parents to trick-or-treat on the Hood College campus is scheduled for Oct 29.

Safe Harvest, which is annually sponsored by the Hood College Chapter of the Mortar Board honor society, will begin at 5 p.m. in the Whitaker Campus Center Commons with games, arts and crafts, activities and other forms of entertainment. Event participants are encouraged to bring new or gently used books appropriate for children from newborns to young adults. The books will be donated to children in the Frederick community.

Groups of children aged 12 and under and their parents will be escorted by Hood students and will have the opportunity to trick-or-treat throughout Hood’s five student residence halls and the Marx Center beginning at 5:15 p.m. The last group will depart around 7:40 p.m.

The event was begun by Hood students a number of year ago to create a traditional Halloween with fall activities in a safe environment. It is an alternative to trick-or-treating in the surrounding neighborhoods. Parents or guardians are required to accompany their children throughout the evening.

Mortar Board is a National Senior Honor Society promoting service, leadership and scholarship among college seniors nationwide. For more information about the event, contact Sienna Bronson, at
