FREDERICK, Md.—A faculty concert of Baroque chamber music is scheduled for Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. at Hood College.
Hood faculty members Lisa Dodson, soprano; Barbara Spicher, baroque flute; William Simms, baroque guitar and theorbo; and Wayne L. Wold, harpsichord, will perform music by Purcell, Monteverdi, Merula, Locatelli, Mayr and Handel in Brodbeck Music Hall.
The concert is being given in memory of Mary Drummond Morris (1928-2015), a harpsichordist and longtime friend and supporter of Hood concerts. Music was a lifelong passion in Morris’ life. She began piano lessons at age 9 and also played the clarinet and cello in the high school band and orchestra, continuing the cello at Oberlin College, where she received a full scholarship in 1945. For several years in the 1960s, she played the cello in the Miami Symphony. After moving to Braddock Heights in 1981, she and her late husband, Frank, attended concerts at Hood College on a regular basis. Baroque music was her favorite, so she would be pleased and honored to know this concert will be performed in her memory.
