June 24: Lisa Algazi Marcus named Ally of the Year

FREDERICK, Maryland—Lisa Algazi Marcus, Ph.D., professor of French and women’s and gender studies at Hood College, was named the 2016 Ally of the Year by The Frederick Center, Inc.

The Frederick Center is the local LGBTQ resource center, and each year, it collects nominations of allies who have made substantive contributions to Frederick’s LGBTQ community. Nominated by Lucky Hernandez, an undergraduate student at Hood College, Marcus was selected for her commitment to LGBTQ people and their families.

She will officially receive the award during a ceremony at Frederick Pride 2017, taking place June 24 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Carroll Creek Linear Park in Downtown Frederick.

Marcus was also approved as a new member of The Frederick Center’s Board of Directors in May.
