Nov. 15: Mentoring event for women

FREDERICK, Maryland—The Graduate School at Hood College and the Greater Maryland chapter of Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) are co-sponsoring a speed mentoring event for women Nov. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Attendees can explore new ways to grow their network and optimize their career savvy. In addition to speed mentoring sessions, keynote speakers will include: “Optimizing your LinkedIn Profile” with Kyle LeBlanc, “Salary Advocacy for Women” with Deepti Gudipati and “Interview Secrets” with Lisa Littlefield.

Some speed mentoring sessions will include:

  • Is a Ph.D. right for me?
  • Is a master’s degree right for me?
  • Secrets for obtaining a science grant
  • The art of professional networking
  • Breaking into the health care industry
  • Research industry employment
  • So you want to be a PI?
  • LinkedIn tips for self-marketing
  • Salary negotiation
  • Interview tips

Come prepared to have a great time, whether you plan to participate, mentor or just observe. STEM women in the Frederick area are welcome to attend, but registration is required at During registration, participants can select their mentoring stations or sign up to participate as a mentor on a topic of their choice.
