Van Nguyen earned her B.A. in Mathematics and B.Sc. in Management Science from University of California, San Diego. She received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from Texas A&M University for her work in non-commutative algebra; in particular, the study of various cohomology structures of finite dimensional Hopf algebras. Van then spent three years at Northeastern University in Boston for her postdoctoral work in representation theory of quivers and algebras. At Northeastern, she was also the faculty adviser of the Math Club and supervised the annual Putnam Competition.
Van joined the Hood College faculty in the Fall of 2017. She is a Project NExT fellow (Red '15) and is interested in undergraduate activities and teaching pedagogies. Besides her mathematical research and teaching interests, Van also enjoys cooking, reading, traveling, and other outdoor activities.
