Biography
Lynn Staininger earned her Bachelor of Music in Choral Education and her Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, studying under Dr. Donald Bailey. She taught music and humanities in the Arizona Public schools for 11 years, serving as a guest clinician and as the Vice President of Choral Director’s Association of Arizona. Lynn’s performance career began as a theater organist, touring the United States and Great Britain. After college, Lynn performed and recorded with Phoenix Vocal Jazz for 3 years, opening for Rosemary Clooney. Lynn has held many church positions including Director of Music and Organist for Sun Lakes UMC, Assistant Music Director for All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Frederick, and recently has become the Music Director for Evangelical Lutheran Church at Urbana.
Currently, Lynn teaches choral ensemble, voice, piano and music theory at Frederick Community College. She is the Artistic Director and Conductor for the Choral Arts Society of Frederick whose guest performances have included the Maryland Symphony, Maryland Concert Opera and the Howard Burns Big Band. Most recently, Ms. Staininger has joined the Hood College community teaching the Choral Ensembles. As Music Director for the annual FCC musical, her productions have included the Maryland debut of “ I Love You Because.” She has composed original music for the Off-Off Broadway production of “Tulip Heaven”, and is an active composer and arranger for her various groups, currently focusing on vocal jazz arrangements for collegiate and professional ensembles. Ms. Staininger has studied conducting with Simon Carrington and with Donald Neuen at Eastman and was chosen as one of 12 International conductors to participate in the Sarteano Choral Workshop in Sarteano, Italy.
