She previously taught community/public health nursing as an adjunct instructor at The Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and at Marymount University in Arlington, Va. Prior to teaching, Cooper worked as a program manager at AARP on the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action and as a program associate at the National Council on Aging, both in Washington, D.C. She is the project lead for the Million Hearts initiative with the Association of Public Health Nurses. Cooper is board-certified as an advanced public health nurse and has 16 years of nursing practice working with older adults. Cooper earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from The George Washington University, her Master of Science in Nursing from Rush University and her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Cedarville University.

She is an experienced clinical instructor for maternal child health and has served as adjunct faculty and guest lecturer for several local associate degree nursing programs. Davies has more than 20 years experience in labor and delivery. She earned her master’s degree in nursing with a concentration in education from Walden University and is enrolled in Walden’s doctor of nursing practice program.

She earned her bachelor of science in nursing in the Hood College BSN completion program and is pursuing her master’s degree at American Public University. DeShazor has 26 years of nursing experience in medical, surgical, home health care, infusion therapy and hospice, and is a charge nurse in an acute care setting at Frederick Memorial Hospital. DeShazor has her CMSRN and ACLS certifications. She serves on a professional development council and is involved in the unit practice counsel at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Jane Garvin, MS, CS, RN, retired professor of nursing and director of nursing education at Frederick Community College, teaches Leadership in Nursing Practice.

Garvin has 30 years of experience in nursing education. She earned a master’s degree in psychiatric/mental health nursing, and a second master’s degree in adult education. She was awarded professor emeritus status at Frederick Community College. In addition to her teaching experience, Garvin has clinical experience in emergency, trauma, critical care, orthopedic, medical-surgical, pediatric and psychiatric/mental health nursing. She was appointed to the Maryland Board of Nursing for two terms and served as its president for four years. She continues to serve on a board standing committee.

She has more than a decade of experience in acute and critical care, including working as a staff nurse, charge nurse and clinical nurse specialist. Gurzick is involved in professional organizations including the Emergency Nurses Association, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists. Her work on defining the role of the clinical nurse specialist has been published in the “Journal of Professional Nursing.” Gurzick earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and her Master of Science in Nursing from the acute and critical care clinical nurse specialist program at Georgetown University.

She has 26 years of nursing experience in medical/surgical and emergency department nursing and was assistant director of nursing at Frederick Community College from 2012 to 2014. Prior to nursing, McGaughran earned a bachelor’s degree in geography from California State University at Long Beach and was a cartographer with the Department of Defense.

Prior to teaching at Hood, she taught the entire range of nursing courses for 16 years as an associate professor at Montgomery College in Silver Spring. Additionally, Ostchega has practiced in a variety of clinical settings such as ICU, ER and medical/surgical. Ostchega is a certified nurse educator, and her areas of expertise are culturally responsible teaching and student retention. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Capella University, her master’s degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and an associate degree from Montgomery College.

Professor Snapp, a certified nurse midwife, has more than 35 years of clinical, academic, supervisory and administrative experience. She previously served as assistant professor in the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and as a clinical instructor and nurse-midwifery education program director at the University of Maryland School of Nursing.
