The area coordinator for diversity initiatives oversees Coblentz and Memorial halls. This area coordinator also works with several multicultural organizations, specifically BSU and HASA, and partners with the multicultural affairs and student activities offices to provide programming and support to Hood’s increasingly diverse community. Within residence life, the area coordinator for diversity initiatives coordinates the RESPECT ally training program and assists with services to special populations.
Travis comes to Hood College from south central Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor's degree in English at Shippensburg University, with minors in women’s studies and anthropology. While there, he served in the office of multicultural student affairs and the women’s center. He was inspired by his mentors to continue working in student affairs. Travis served as co-president of Sigma Tau Delta international English honor society and as president for Students Advocating LGBTA Equality. Travis worked as an ENCORE peer leader, Building Bridges facilitator and as the MSA special events coordinator.
After serving as the interim assistant to the director of the office of multicultural student affairs, Travis earned a master's degree in counseling-college student personnel. While completing his graduate work, he served as a graduate assistant for the MSA, and completed internships with the dean of students office and Academic Success Program. He also served as treasurer of Chi Sigma Iota international counseling honor society, co-adviser for the Tunnel of Oppression Program, staff adviser for SALE, and on the Graduate Student Association and GLBT Concerns Committee.
