Identity Finder Instructions

IFLogoHoodIdentity Finder is a program that searches your computer for, and helps to remove, Personally Identifiable Information (PII) such as credit card, social security, and bank account numbers. The removal of this information can help to reduce your risk of identity theft, which can be very costly to you and Hood College.

 Quick Steps:

  1. Double click the Identity Finder icon
  2. Click ‘OK’ on the ‘Customer Experience’ window
  3. Create a password to protect your scan results and settings
  4. Click ‘Start Search now’
  5. Minimize the scan status window and do not log off or turn off your computer while the scan is running. It is ok to minimize the window and/or lock your computer
  6. After the scam completes, click ‘Advanced’
  7. Review the results and decide which files/emails should be kept (‘ignore’) and which files/emails should be deleted (‘shred’)
  8. Close the program
  9. Repeat this scan periodically, such as on the first day of each month
