Graduation Year: 2015 Major: Elementary/Special Education Why did you choose Hood College? I chose Hood College because they have one of the most outstanding education programs in the country. Also, being a person with a disability, I treasured the fact that Hood College has a wonderful disability services office. Hood College, and its staff and professors, have taken the time to find the best way that I learn, allowing college to be truly enjoyable. Lastly, I really loved the small class sizes, which allows me not to be just a number in a system, but an actual person. Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus? I am currently a freshman representative for Shriner Hall. What did you gain from that experience? I have gained the ability to more eloquently present my thoughts. Also I believe that being elected freshman representative has allowed me to find my voice and thus, be the voice for other people. What is your most memorable experience at Hood? My most memorable experience at Hood was Policies for Dollars. There was just so much energy and pride pulsing through the veins of the Hood students. I loved how at the beginning of the competition all the residents and halls came together at the Pergola, chanting and shouting for their residence hall. To be not only apart of it, but also a vital part in the planning, was special in that it showed the togetherness of the Hood community. What do you value most about your relationships with your professors? The thing that I value most about my relationship with my professors is that they are very willing to take time to help you understand a concept, even outside of office hours. The professors at Hood really do care about your life and not just the academics. What is something that surprised you about Hood? Something that surprised me about Hood was the friendliness of everybody here. Everyone gives a "Hood Hello," and people are so willing to talk and stop if you need help. That was the huge difference compared to my high school. What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why? My most rewarding class at Hood was Psychology 101. It gave me a deeper understanding of the human mind. And I really loved the ability to participate and do experiments, especially when we were able to deviate from the social norms set by our society. It was fun to see others reactions when social norm was broken When you aren't in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time? In my spare time I love to ride the bikes, provided by the campus, into downtown Frederick. I really love the downtown area in which the College is situated. I feel really safe and secure, and downtown is a cultural experience that I never received living in the suburbs of Anne Arundel County. What is your favorite campus event? My favorite campus event is Whitaker Wednesday, because it not only provides entertainment, but also gives a way to relax during the middle of the week. Also, it provides the perfect opportunity to meet friends and win awesome prizes. |
