Graduation Year: 2012 Majors: English
Home Town: Uniontown, Pa. High School: Laurel Highlands Senior High School Why did you choose Hood College? I transferred here after my sophomore year and found the College charming. I fell in love with it while walking around. I also, more importantly, like the emphasis on academic success. Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus? As an education major, students are placed in internships in local schools. I have seen a variety of schools — middle and high school levels — and have learned a lot through the internships. What did you gain from that experience? An insight into teaching, by spending many hours a week with a teacher and class, you get a real idea about whether or not you truly want to teach. In my case, the answer is yes. It is not often that you find out if you really want to pursue a career while still in college. What is your most memorable experience at Hood? This year, I participated in orientation as an orientation assistant. I could not have asked for a better experience! I loved getting to know the incoming first-year students and had a great time. What do you value most about your relationships with your professors? My adviser is a wonderful person. I'm so lucky to have someone so great working with me to help me get the most out of my education and to prepare for my future. What is something that surprised you about Hood? The people. I thought that I would continue to feel like a transfer student, but it hasn't been the case. Everyone has made me feel so welcome here! What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why? It's difficult to pick just one. I've enjoyed all of the English classes I've had and I feel like my education classes are invaluable to my soon-to-be teaching career. When you aren't in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time? I love spending time with all of the amazing people I've met here. What is your favorite campus event? I really like late-night breakfasts before finals. Everyone is so stressed, but happy to be eating breakfast instead of studying. |
