Graduation Year: 2013 Major: Early Childhood Education Home Town: Brunswick, Md. High School: Brunswick High School Why did you choose Hood College? I had danced at Hood for the Gospel Ensemble when I was younger and fell in love with the campus and people — they were all so warm — and ever since that day I knew I was coming here and nowhere else. Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus? I am currently serving as the president of the Black Student Union and I was an orientation assistant for the summer and fall. What did you gain from that experience? From my experiences I have gained a lot of confidence. Although I am an outgoing person I don't do so well with people I don't know, and participating in these opportunities have taught me to reach out to people and be more comfortable in my own skin and shown me that I have a lot to offer. I also gain access to a whole new world. Being involved in campus has opened up so many doors and opportunities as well as connected me with people with whom I thought I would never have a connection. What is your most memorable experience at Hood? Being a part of the orientation team, I met so many new people, made so many new friends and had so much fun I am glad I decided to do it. What do you value most about your relationships with your professors? The fact that they generally care and you're not just a face or another student to them. What is something that surprised you about Hood? I can't really say I was surprised by anything. What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why? I think my favorite class was my child development class and my foundation of teaching class. In child development I got the opportunity to work in the lab school with preschoolers and it was very rewarding. In my foundations class I worked in a first-grade classroom and enjoyed every moment of it; I am glad I decided to become a teacher. When you aren't in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time? Hang out with my friends in Whitaker; it's the perfect place to meet up with people to chat, eat and relax. What is your favorite campus event? The dances, bingo, Minute to Win It, movies and pre-exam coffee house. |
