happy holidays

Graduation Year: 2015

Major: Biochemistry

Why did you choose Hood College?

Hood College is located in my favorite town, Frederick! I was raised here and I absolutely love everything about it. There are many resources related to the career field I want to go into located in close proximity to the Hood College campus.

Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus?

I'm a part of the Best Buddies Club at Hood College. I also volunteer at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Attending the Hood College community service fair opened this opportunity for me.

What did you gain from that experience?

Working with Best Buddies was one of the most enriching things I've ever done. Not only did I make plenty of new friends, but also I realized and was able to help others realize how important it is to not treat others differently because of their race, color or disability.

What is your most memorable experience at Hood?

I really liked orientation and meeting all of the great faculty and staff here at Hood College. Everyone was so friendly and that carried on into the rest of the year. Since I'm a commuter, it takes extra effort to get up and go to class, but I never feel like it's going to be a boring day because I get to see some awesome people here.

What do you value most about your relationships with your professors?

I love that I am able to speak with my professors about pretty much anything, including my personal life. It's important to be surrounded by people you want to strive to be like at the professional level. My professors have been knowledgeable individuals who want to share their wealth of experience with me every time I ask.

What is something that surprised you about Hood?

I was surprised at how easy it was to get in contact with my professors. I was always nervous and worried about looking stupid when I asked them questions but they never made me feel uncomfortable. As a student, that's one of the most important things.

What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?

Taking an Eastern religions course really opened up my eyes to how similar everyone in the world is. Things like religion, race and color do differ but at the end of the day we're all humans working to find happiness. It also taught me to respect everyone's differences because what may seem odd to one person is the norm to another.

When you aren't in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?

I really like walking around campus and going to get food with my friends. I love food, especially the french fries at the Blazer! It's so pretty on campus and it's always fun to tease the many squirrels on campus.

What is your favorite campus event?

I really like going to basketball games! It's so much fun to watch the players and be a part of that team spirit and energy.
