Graduation Year: 2014
Minor: Social Work and Women's Studies
Why did you choose Hood College?
I choose Hood because it was a small school where I knew I would get the personalized education I wanted.
Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus?
Yes! I've had so many opportunities since I started at Hood. I've volunteered with Heartly House, the Community Action Agency and I interned with the Frederick County Commission for Women last summer. Most recently, I returned from Ireland, where I spent a month in an internship at the Red Ribbon Project in Limerick. In addition to that, this fall I will be interning at the Mental Health Association of Frederick.
What did you gain from that experience?
So many things! Having the opportunity to intern and volunteer in agencies equips you with valuable real world experience! I gained self-confidence, knowledge and skills that will serve me well in my career.
What is your most memorable experience at Hood?
It would have to be my study abroad experience this summer. Having never left the country before, it was absolutely amazing to be able to do that and get credit for it!
What do you value most about your relationships with your professors?
I value their accessibility most. They are almost always available when you need them and legitimately want to help.
What is something that surprised you about Hood?
How small and close knit the community is. I remember walking to class and passing President Volpe in the hall and he said, "hi" to me. I feel small things like that make Hood special and distinguish it from other schools.
What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?
My most rewarding academic experience so far, is not only having the opportunity to travel abroad with the social work department, but also being invited to participate in a research project with Professor Sowbel!
When you aren't in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Hang out with my pets! :)
