Graduation Year: 2014
Major: Social Work
Why did you choose Hood College?
I honestly never thought I'd end up at Hood. I used to live two blocks away as a child and would often walk around campus. I always loved the Pergola! When I was at community college, a professor recommended Hood to me. I scheduled a tour and fell in love! I was really impressed with the social work program.
Have you participated in an internship or leadership opportunity in the local area or on campus?
I am currently at an internship at a psychiatric hospital.
What did you gain from that experience?
Although I just recently started, I am really enjoying the great learning opportunity of being able to put the things I've learned in class in action. During my senior year, I will gain a lot of practice experience for my future career!
What is your most memorable experience at Hood?
Being inducted in Phi Alpha, the social work honor society.
What do you value most about your relationships with your professors?
I love that I work as a student worker in my department because I am able to get to know my professors on a deeper level. I really value that they take the time to get to know each student and are extremely supportive and encouraging.
What is something that surprised you about Hood?
I was surprised how such a small school has such a big parking problem in the mornings!
What was your most rewarding class or academic experience at Hood? Why?
Studying abroad in Ireland is by far my most rewarding experience at Hood. It combined my two passions: social work and traveling. I interned at a domestic violence agency for four weeks and traveled around Ireland on the weekends. I made so many great memories and grew close to the other women in the program. I would recommend every social work student to try their hardest to take advantage of this opportunity.
When you aren't in class, what is your favorite thing to do in your spare time?
Hike, craft, cuddle with my dogs, hang out with my friends, etc.
What is your favorite campus event?
May Madness, of course!
