FREDERICK, Md.—A bestselling, and renowned Spanish novelist from
Barcelona, Spain, will lecture on history, cultural and
linguistic diversity and ancient maps on April 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Hood College.
Alfred Bosch, lecturer in African history at the Pompeu Fabra University of
Barcelona, will give a lecture, in English, titled "A Map is Not a
Map," in the Whitaker Campus Center Commons. The talk will chronicle the
Spanish region of Catalonia, and its capital, Barcelona, through ancient maps, illustrating it as a distinct
cultural entity, and show how history and politics have shaped the area and the
Catalan culture.
Bosch is a member of the Association of Catalan Language Writers, an expert
in African Studies and a connoisseur of the Middle Ages. His novel
"L'Atles furtiu," won
him the esteemed Sant Jordi (St. George) Prize and launched his career. He will
spend three days at Hood, visiting classes, teaching a mini-workshop
and interacting with the community.
This event, sponsored by the Charlotte Moran Visiting Scholar Fund and
organized by the department of foreign languages and literatures, is free and
open to the public.
