An examination of African-American feminist scholarship in the 19th and 20th centuries,
as African-American women grappled with the issues of gender, race and class. Focus on
African-American women’s perspectives and diverse experiences within the context of
changing political, economic and social structures. Primary and secondary writings by African-
American feminists in various disciplines will be used to understand the issues, agendacontending philosophies, organizational strategies and alliances proposed.
