The origins and development of racial attitudes, both scientific and popular, supporting
mythologies and contemporary institutional expressions. Emphasis on a historic overview of
racism from the first English contacts with Africans and Indians in the late 16th century to the
present and on political approaches to the problems of racism in American society.
