Architecture, sculpture and painting from the late Roman empire through the Gothic period.
Emphasis on the function and meaning of images and their social and ideological contexts in
western Europe and Byzantium. Field trips to the Walters Art Gallery, Dumbarton Oaks and
the National Cathedral.
