An in-depth study of topics important to the teacher of elementary and middle school
mathematics: topics to be emphasized include but are not limited to NCTM Content and
Process Standards, differentiated instruction, assessment strategies, number sense, teaching
and learning, and mathematical tools. A problem-based approach that is centered on student
understanding and explanation will be a focus of this course.
