(3 credits)
This course will teach you the elements of Old English, the distant ancestor of the language
we speak today, which flourished between ca. 500-1100 A.D. By our sixth class meeting,
you will be translating Old English. By our fifteenth class meeting, you will be translating
complete texts and placing them in the cultural context of Anglo-Saxon England. The work
we do in this course will expose you to the very roots of the language and culture that anchored
England, and then America.
