A study of the impact of Italy on the literature and consciousness of British writers of the 19th
and 20th centuries. Readings will be selected from the poetry, fiction and nonfiction of writers
such as Shelley, Byron, Ruskin, Elizabeth and Robert Browning, George Eliot, Henry James and D.H. Lawrence. Some attention will be paid to the history and art of Italy.
