Conservation Biology examines the critical problems of maintaining, enhancing and restoring
biological diversity for the 21st century. It applies disciplines such as ecology, population
biology, genetics and modeling to the conservation of rare or keystone species and endangered
ecosystems. The course includes discussion of multidisciplinary topics such as international
trade in wildlife, ethnobotany, ecological restoration, conservation ethics, natural resource
economics, conservation genetics and ecotourism. Students contribute to the seminar format
through journal exercises, active discussion, role-playing and oral presentations.
