Prerequisite: ENV 502 or permission of the instructor. (1 credit)
This course will introduce the modeling of structured populations. Deterministic models
will be used as a starting point, but the course will emphasize stochastic models that can
incorporate several types of variability into demographic parameters. Several aspects of
population structure will be considered, including age, stage, genetic and spatial structure.
Topics examined will include population dynamics, regulation and harvesting; metapopulation
structure; conservation genetics; risk assessment; and population viability analysis.
