HNHS 329 Sport and Society (CORE—Western Civilization)

Prerequisites: Completion of the Historical Analysis area of the Core. Open to history majors and sophomores, juniors or seniors in the Honors Program or with the permission of the instructor. (First semester—as needed/3 credits) 

Sport has been a microcosm of western society dating to antiquity. As such, it provides a window through which we can study a society and its culture. This course explores the history of sport in the United States. It examines issues of class, race, gender, ethnicity, culture, nationalism, economics, consumerism and the media, among others.
