INST 512 Archaeology: Cultures, Technologies, Methods and Theories (Humanities Elective)

(Second semester/4 credits)

This course examines the history of the development of archaeological exploration and the discipline of archaeology as it is currently practiced. The concepts and questions that form the foundation of this field of inquiry will be studied, relating these to different archaeological sites around the world. Both archaeological cultures and scientific techniques used to analyze the types of data created by these cultures will be examined. In so doing, we will study societies that vary from one another widely, both in terms of their geographic locations and the time periods in which they existed.
