Prerequisites: MUSC 201. (Second semester—even years/4 credits)
This class surveys the repertoire of Western art music from 1800 to the present, covering the late
Romantic, modern, and postmodern periods. We will discuss the major composers of these periods (Wagner, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Berio, Reich, etc.) alongside major historical milestones such as the revolutions of 1848, the First and Second World Wars, the Civil Rights Era, and the internet age.
