1 ECON 200 is a four (4) credit course that combines material taught in ECON 205 and ECON 206. This course is only offered in the Fall semester. Pre-requisite for this course is MATH 120 (Pre-calculus math) or a Level III placement on Hood’s Basic Skills Inventory (BSI). Students who successfully complete ECON 200 with a C or better are waived out of ECON 205 and ECON 206.

2 ECMG 212, MATH 120 and 201 may be taken upon completion of MATH 099 or with Level III placement on BSI.

3 For students planning to pursue a PhD in economics, ECON 480 and MATH 201, 202, 207, 304, 339, 351, 333 and 453 are strongly recommended. Students planning to pursue a PhD in economics should be sure to take placement tests for some of these courses and to begin taking these courses as early as possible in their undergraduate years.

For students majoring in the International Economics, Economics 480, Econometrics, should be taken prior to the Senior Seminar (Economics 470). Students majoring in Political Economy are strongly urged to take, but are not required to take, Economics 480. If they do so, it should be taken prior to the Senior Seminar.

Economics majors who wish to study abroad in the junior year should keep this plan in mind when scheduling courses each semester. If they wish to study in a country where a foreign language is spoken, they must be sure to enroll in the appropriate language courses at Hood in the freshman and sophomore years.
