NOTES:

1ECON 200 is a four (4) credit course that combines material taught in ECON 205 and ECON 206. This course is only offered in the Fall semester. Pre-requisite for

this course is MATH 120 (Pre-calculus math) or a Level III placement on Hood’s Basic Skills Inventory (BSI). Students who successfully complete ECON 200 with a C or better are waived out of ECON 205 and ECON 206.

2MATH 112 or ECMG 212 may be taken upon completion of MATH 099 or with higher level placement in Hood’s Basic Skills Inventory (BSI).

MATH 201 and 202 are strongly recommended for students planning to attend graduate school.

Completion of MATH 112 or ECMG 212 is desirable by the end of the sophomore year.

Management (B.A.) majors who wish to study abroad in the junior year should keep this plan in mind when scheduling courses each semester. If they wish to study in a country where a foreign language is spoken, they must enroll in the appropriate language courses at Hood in their freshman and sophomore years.

MANAGEMENT 

MAJOR REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS ENTERING HOOD IN 2010-2011

Students are expected to have the following competencies: knowledge about the different functional areas of business, quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, and the ability to relate organizations to the greater society in which they exist. The management core enables students to achieve these competencies. Students are also required to meet either a study abroad requirement or a three-credit internship requirement. International students and adult students with substantial work obligations are exempt from the study abroad/internship requirement. Other students may request an exemption from the study abroad/internship requirement.

The major requires a minimum of 54-57 credits, depending on the internship situation, in management and related fields. Students may take a maximum of 60 credits in management.

Students may choose any three management courses from the following and get a general business administration concentration or concentrate in a discipline by selecting three classes from one of the areas below. Management majors may develop, in consultation with their management faculty advisor, an individual interest concentration, which focuses on a particular career interest. Examples of such concentrations include information systems, public relations and environmental management.
