For more than 65 years, the Hood choir has performed Handel's "Messiah" during the holiday season. For most of that time, the performances were with the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club. In recent years Hood has performed in conjunction with choirs from Mount St. Mary's University, Montgomery College and Goucher College, as well as with the Choral Arts Society of Frederick. Individual musical selections, soloists, the orchestra and choral forces may change from year to year, but Handel's glorious and majestic music lives on, as does this important tradition at Hood.
This year the Hood Choir will be joined by the Choral Arts Society of Frederick, soprano Jan Aaland and tenor Peter Scott Drackley to present “Messiah and More.” The musicians will be under the direction of Lynn Staininger, director of choral activities at Hood College.
