"Contain Yourself!" exhibit to be displayed in Gallery

20-Jul-06

FREDERICK, Md.--Ceramic sculpture and functional ware will be featured in an exhibit at Hood College from Saturday, Aug. 12 to Sunday, Aug. 27.

The exhibit by Keith Parsley, entitled "Contain Yourself! An Exploration of Containment in the Literal, the Abstract and the Applied," will be held in the Hodson Gallery in Hood's Tatem Arts Center. A reception with Parsley will be held in the Gallery Saturday, Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

"Contain Yourself!" employs stoneware and functional ware to address the issue of containment. The exhibit invites viewers through the vehicle of form, texture and surface to reflect on their aesthetic values and influences.

Parsley is a ceramic artist based in Monkton, Md. His high fire functional and sculptural work recognizes the constant struggle of individuals in our society to maintain their individuality and celebrates the victory that each of us achieves by preserving our eccentricity. Parsley's work is a tribute to the defiant obstinacy of living things, as well as a statement of hope, a celebration of triumph and an assertion of the belief that from tension comes change.
