International Application Instructions for First-Year Students
Before applying to Hood College, students must have completed their secondary education or plan to complete it in the semester before enrolling. Applications that include all of the following documents will be reviewed for admission:
- Official Hood College Application - Submit a paper or online Hood College application, or a Common Application. Please remember to include a valid e-mail address with the application to help make future communication easier.
- A writing sample - This can be an essay on a topic of your choice or a previously graded paper.
- Official Secondary School (High School) Transcript - International transcripts will be accepted for consideration at Hood College only if they have been translated and evaluated by a professional organization. Acceptable agencies can be found at National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or Hood's list of services.
Students who attended another college or university will also need to have this transcript translated and evaluated by an approved agency. We require a course-by-course evaluation.
- Passport Information - Please submit a copy (not origional) of your passport front and photo page. Make sure the copy os clear and all information is legible. If you are currently in the United States on a Visa, please also submit a photo copy of your Visa.
- Recommendation Letters - Applicants will need two (2) letters of recommendation. One (1) from a guidance director, guidance counselor, principal, or headmaster, and one (1) from an academic instructor from your most recent place of study. If you are currently enrolled in an English as a Second Language (ESL) program, please have your ESL instructor provide your recommendation. These recommendation letters are required to assist the admission committee in its review of application materials.
- Official TOEFL Profile, IELTS Profile, SAT Profile or ACT Profile - TOEFL minimum score of 79 Internet based, 550 paper based, 213 computer-based; minimum IELTS score of 6.5; SAT minimum score 1050 composite; or ACT minimum of 23 composite. Students with scores below these numbers may also apply.
- Financial Information - If applying for an F-1 visa, complete the Hood College Undergraduate International Application and provide the requested financial information. Students applying under any other immigration status other than permanent resident must submit financial documentation. A student may also choose to use the College Board International Student Financial Aid Application and International Student Certification of Finances form to explain their financial situation, as long as they also submit supporting documents such as bank statements.
Transfer Application Deadlines and Process:
Fall Semester (August): Submit application and all supporting Documents by June 15. Notification of admission decision will be sent within one month.
Spring Semester (January): Submit application and all supporting documents by November 15. Notification of admission decision will be sent within one month.
International Application Instructions for Transfer Students
Before applying to Hood College, students must have completed their secondary education and have enrolled in another college or university and completed some credits. Applications that include all of the following documents will be reviewed for admission:
- Official Hood College online or Transfer Application - print this document, complete it, and scan and email it to international@hood.edu. You may also mail the completed application to : Hood College, Office of Undergrauate Admission, 401 Rosemont Ave, Frederick, MD 21701. Please remember to include a valid e-mail address with the application to help make future communication easier.
- $35 (US) Application Fee - Apply online and the application fee is waived.
- A writing sample - This can be an essay on a topic of your choice or a previously graded paper.
- Official Secondary School (High School) and/or College Transcripts - Students who have completed 24 credits hours or more do not have to submit their secondary or high school transcripts. However, all transfer applicants must submit college transcripts. College transcripts from U.S. institutions need to be sent officially from registrar's office. International transcripts will be accepted for consideration at hood College only if they have been translated and evaluated by a professional organization. - Academic Recommendation - Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor from your most recent college or university of atendance.
- Official TOEFL Profile, SAT Profile or ACT Profile (if you have less then 24 credits) - TOEFL minimum score of 79 Internet-based, 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based; minimum IELTS score of 6.5; SAT minimum score 1050 composite; or ACT minimum of 22 composite. Students with scores below these numbers may also apply.

While not required, to better assist the admission committee in its review of application materials, students may want to submit a personal essay stating the reasons for wishing to attend Hood College and recommendations from academic instructors that evaluate performance and ability.
