Hood Highlights

Class of '69 Get-Together
Members of the Class of ’69 recently enjoyed a fun-filled, four-day get together at the Adirondack home of Sharon MacDonald Sayles to celebrate their 60th birthdays. In on the fun were Ginny Monaco Hatfield, Ellen Fogler Greenberg, Tina Smith Tucker, Sarah Jane Snyder Raffety, Fran Murray Donnithorne, and Norma Jackson Delano and her husband Mike. In addition, the group pooled funds for Hood, a portion of which was used to update the Meyran smoker.

Art Exhibit at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center
An art exhibit featuring the work of the late Helen L. Smith, a former faculty member at Hood, will be on display at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in downtown Frederick until Feb. 17. The exhibit includes a number of items from The Helen L. Smith Collection of Art and Papers from Hood’s archival collection, as well as paintings and artwork not seen before in public. Helen is best known for having documented the people and landscape of Frederick County, painting up until her death in 1997 at the age of 103. Proceeds from the sale of a book, “Frederick’s Legacy: The Art of Helen L. Smith,” support an endowed fund which provides scholarships to young people to study art at the Delaplaine.
