AIDS AT 25 YEARS: The Center for Science and Mathematics cordially invites alumnae, alumni and guests to attend the second event of their lecture series, "AIDS at 25 Years." Dr. John Coffin, director of the HIV Drug Resistance Program, NCI-Frederick, will address the Hood community on "New Insights into the HIV-Host Relationship?" SAFE HARVEST:  Alumnae and alumni are invited to join the Hood College Keystone Chapter of Mortar Board and the Hood College campus for a one-of-a-kind fall fest and trick-or-treat celebration Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m.! NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED TO FACULTY: Hood College welcomed the addition of eight new full-time and two new part-time faculty members who began at the start of the 2006-07 academic year. LECTURE ON FEMINISM AND WAR: Hood College’s Global Studies Program, the Honors Program and the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance will sponsor a lecture focusing on international relations, feminism and war Wednesday, Oct. 11. Cynthia Enloe, a research professor in the international development and women’s studies department at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., will give a lecture entitled, “So Many Wars, So Many Questions: Some Feminist Answers,” from 7-8:30 p.m. in Hood’s Rosenstock Hall Auditorium. CENTER FOR HUMANITIES COLLOQUIUM: The 2006-2007 Colloquium series, "Acquired Tastes: Food, Drink and Culture," continues Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, with a performance of Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" by the Blackfriars Stage Company. CROSSING CULTURES: Feeding the Body and the Spirit. A conversation and workshop will be held Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at 12:30 p.m. in the Marx Center. Join Babalao Cordeiro and Ebome Rosa Dresher as they cook some typical Afro-Brazilian dishes and explain the symbolism and mythology associated with the food. At the end, all participants will share a meal. The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. Please e-mail Rick J. LIGHT THE NIGHT: Alumnae and alumni are invited to join Hood’s newest team, the Light the Night Walking Team. "Light the Night" is held annually to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  The two-mile walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Baker Park. There will be music, food, and hopefully, cool, dry fall weather to enjoy. FALL ATHLETICS NEWS: The Hood women's soccer team (5-4-1) has won four of its last five matches following a 1-0 victory over Goucher this past Thursday, while the men's squad (5-6-0) looks to climb above the .500 mark and hosts six of its final seven contests at Thomas Athletic Field. In addition, the men's and women's cross country teams are fresh off record-setting performances and are gearing up for their lone home meet of the season on Oct. 21.
