Hood broke the program record for goals in a season Thursday
against Neumann College. The Blazers have scored 85 times in 12 games,
eclipsing the previous mark of 80 set last spring. Hood also set a
program record for goals scored against a CAC opponent with 11 tallies
against York College (Pa.) Monday. Sophomore Kris Miner (above) is three goals shy of
tying Jason Anderson’s single-season scoring mark. He leads the
team with 19 goals and is also four points away from tying
Anderson’s single-season point mark of 30 from 2008. Hood wraps up the regular season this week with a pair of CAC contests.

Hood scored at least 20 goals in a game for the fifth time
this season against Waynesburg College. The Blazers also broke the
school record for goals in a season. Hood has racked up 140 goals
in 12 games, breaking the previous mark of 128 set in 1998 (17
games). With five points against the Hornets, sophomore Kesley Blackwell (above) broke the single-season scoring record of 47 set by Cheryl Banks
in 2005. Blackwell leads the team with 32 goals and 18 assists for 50 points. Junior Brandy Noel moved up to third all-time in career
goals with 75 and points with 90. Additionally, after defeating Shenandoah University Monday, the Blazers tied the program record for wins with seven, equaling the mark of the 2005 squad. Hood looks to set a new standard Friday at nonconference foe Ferrum College.

Hood went 5-3 on the week and swept twinbills from Capital Athletic Conference foes Stevenson University and Gallaudet University to even its CAC record at 4-4 and remain in fourth place in the conference. The Blazers belted five homeruns Saturday against the Bison, nearly equaling their season output of six in the previous 22 games. Junior Jen Willison homered in four straight games against Frostburg State University, Gallaudet and Stevenson to bring her season total to six, tying her for second place all-time on Hood's single-season chart. Willison doubled her seasonal RBI total with 12 RBI in Hood's eight games. Senior Sara Wastler (above) became Hood's all-time leader in RBI (77) following a three-run walk-off homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning. She also became the first Hood player to homer twice in a single game. The Blazers have four more CAC games scheduled this week before the CAC tournament, which begins Tuesday, April 14.

Hood was idle last week following a postponed match and a cancellation, but returns to action Tuesday at York College (Pa.) for a 3 p.m. Capital Athletic Conference match.

Hood went 1-1 last week with a win over Wilson College and a loss to nationally ranked Capital Athletic Conference opponent University of Mary Washington. Jillian Elkaim won her 11th singles match of the season, tying her for third on Hood's single-season win chart. Larisa Buriak, Caitlin Erickson (above), Laura Saad and Dani Hunt also garnered straight-set singles wins. Erickson and Saad teamed up to defeat Samantha May and Zhanna Movsesyan, 8-4, at first doubles while Elkaim and Buriak ousted Elsa Camuamba and Sarah Emmel, 8-0, at second doubles.

The men's track & field team finished fourth in a field of 13 teams at the Goucher Classic Saturday. While compiling only one event win, the Blazers racked up 15 scoring marks.
The win came from all-CAC performer Ola Komolafe who ran 51.45 to win the 400 meters amid swirling winds gusting to over 30 miles per hour. He returned later in the meet to run 22.84 and set a new school record in the 200 meters while finishing third. His brother, Tomilayo, was fifth in the 400 meters. Justin Everett led the Hood effort in the jumps, finishing second in the long jump, while Conor Prachar added a fourth place finish. Everett returned to place third in the triple jump. Captains William Andrews and Nick Manning (above) placed second and fourth in the steeplechase, respectively. Senior thrower Matt Haynes finished second in the hammer throw and freshman Chris DiGangi was third in the pole vault clearing 13 feet. Hood's last meet before the conference championship is this weekend at West Chester University.

The Hood College women's track & field team finished fourth in a field of 13 teams at the Goucher Classic on Saturday.
Once again, the Blazers were led by Jessica Parrish who completed two event wins (the 100 meters in 12.52 and the triple jump in 34' 9"), two second-place individual finishes and anchored the 4 x 100 meter relay team to a runner-up finish. The 100 meter mark was a new school record.
Adding to the effort were two school records set by Jessica Stanley who finished second in the 400 meters (1:01.89) and seventh in the 800 meters. Stanley also ran a leg on the second place 4 x 100 meter relay team. The final school record of the day was set by freshman Emma Arneson (above), who carved nearly a half-second from the women's 100-meter hurdle record, running 17.42 in finishing sixth. In addition, she added a third-place finish to back up Parrish's second in the long jump and a personal record in the 200 meters.
Hood's last meet before the conference championship is this weekend at West Chester University.
