MEN'S BASKETBALL (8-3, 3-1 CAC): The Blazer men finished third at last weekend's Washington & Lee University Tournament to improve to 8-3 on the season. Hood suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of the Emory University Eagles, 62-59, before rebounding to knock off the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 92-82. In the matchup with the Eagles, junior Jesse Gutekunst registered his 21st career double-double with game-highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Then in the consolation contest against the Mariners, sophomore Ryan Junghans poured in a career-high 38 points, including a school-record eight three-pointers, to power the Blazers to the 10-point victory. This week, the Blazers kick off a season-long five-game homestand Saturday against non-conference foe Messiah College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (0-8, 0-0 AWCC): Hood dropped a pair of decisions last week at the Penn State Behrend Winter Classic, falling to the College of Mount Saint Joseph, 85-38, and Washington & Jefferson College, 67-24. Against the Lions, senior Dana Shook netted a season-high 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting while freshmen Natasha Taylor and Sara Hartlaub contributed six points apiece. Then on Saturday, Shook was once against the team's top scorer with nine points to lift her scoring average on the season to 9.6 points per game. This weekend, the Blazers engage in their third and final regular-season tournament at Marymount University. Hood will take on the host Saints Friday at 5 p.m. at the Verizon Sports Arena in Arlington, Va.

MEN'S SWIMMING (2-4, 1-4 CAC): After a 34-day layoff, the Blazer men return to action hosting their first home meet of the season Saturday. Hood entertains the Salisbury University Sea Gulls in a Capital Athletic Conference meet at 2 p.m. at the Hood Aquatics Center.
