Freshman Brenden Straughn pumped in a career-high 23 points to power Hood to an 84-63 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the Gallaudet University Wednesday. The Blazers snapped a seven-game losing skid and captured their first CAC win of the season. Hood has now won five in a row against the Bison and improves to 6-2 all-time against Gallaudet. Straughn hit 7-of-16 from the field, including two three-pointers, and 7-of-8 from the foul line to go along with six rebounds (also a career-best), five assists and five steals. Then against St. Mary's College (Md.) on Saturday, junior J'Air Brady tallied a game-high 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting while sophomore Tyler Snoots (above) was a point away from a double-double with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Hood has two more CAC games slated for this week.

Hood registered its first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season Wednesday evening, knocking off the Gallaudet University Bison, 68-59, in Washington, D.C. Sophomore Allyson Lethbridge led all scorers with 22 points, seven rebounds and four steals while junior Jen Willison notched a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards. The Blazers dropped a heartbreaker Saturday to visiting St. Mary's College (Md.) when two late free throws proved to be the game-winners for the Seahawks. Willison finished with her sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds while senior Jessica Head (above) chipped in seven points--all on free throws--and grabbed eight boards. Hood hosts nationally ranked Marymount University Wednesday before traveling to Wesley College Saturday.

Senior Matt Haynes won a pair of events and freshman Chris Nemecek won one in a tri-meet with Frostburg State University and Salisbury University Saturday at the Huntsinger Aquatic Center. Haynes took top honors in the 50 free (23.29) and the 100 free (52.21) and was second in the 100 back (1:00.12). Nemecek touched out Salisbury's Jamie Overholt by 0.02 to win the 200 free (1:55.31). He was also second in the 200 fly (2:26.49) and fourth in the 500 free (5:51.41). Senior A.J. Smith (above) and the Blazers host their second of three straight home meets Saturday against Gallaudet University.

Women's Swimming (1-6, 0-4 CAC)

Junior Erica Hamor won the 200 fly (2:35.73) for the Hood women in a tri-meet with Salisbury University and Frostburg State University Saturday at the Huntsinger Aquatic Center. Hamor also took second in the 500 free (6:00.62) and third in the 100 fly (1:10.22). Sophomore Melissa Masino (above) was fifth in the 1000 free (13.56.25), the 200 back (2:51.63) and the 100 back (1:20.17) while senior Kara Cruice was fourth in the 100 breast (1:24.73) and the 200 breast (3:05.77) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:44.12). Hood hosts its second of three home meets Saturday against Gallaudet University.
