Hood rallied to secure its first home victory of the season Wednesday, defeating the visiting Marymount University Saints, 63-47, in a Capital Athletic Conference game at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. Hood exacted some revenge with this triumph after the Saints, then the sixth seed, toppled the third-seeded Blazers in the quarterfinals of the 2008 CAC tournament at this very site. The Blazers, who came from behind to win their first contest of the season in which they trailed at halftime, presented head coach Tom Dickman with his 80th coaching victory as Hood's mentor. Freshman Brenden Straughn led all scorers with 21 points and dished five assists while senior Tim Abercrombie (above) finished with 15 points and junior J'Air Brady added 12. In Hood's second game of the week against Wesley College, the only undefeated team remaining in the CAC, Abercrombie paced the Blazers with 21 points. Hood is currently tied for sixth place in the CAC with Stevenson University and travels to Owings Mills to face the Mustangs Wednesday evening.

Women's Basketball (3-12, 1-5 CAC)

Hood dropped a pair of Capital Athletic Conference games last week to Wesley College and nationally ranked Marymount University. Junior Jen Willison (above) moved into seventh place on Hood's all-time scoring chart with 903 career points. Willison was Hood's top scorer and recorded double-doubles in both contests last week. She is ranked in the top three in the CAC in scoring and rebounding and leads the league in offensive rebounding. Hood is currently tied for seventh place in the CAC with Stevenson University and travels to Owings Mills to face the Mustangs Wednesday evening.

Men's Swimming (1-6, 1-4 CAC)

Jan. 24 vs. Penn State University-Altoona 2 p.m.

Senior Matt Haynes and freshman Chris Nemecek (above) were both triple winners for Hood in a 102-52 victory over Gallaudet University Saturday at the Huntsinger Aquatic Center. The Blazers won eight individual events to secure their first win of the season. Haynes took top honors in the 1000 free, 50 free and the 100 free while Nemecek captured the 200 free, 100 fly and the 500 free. Chris Moreland won the 200 IM and the 100 breast. The Blazers host their final meet of the season Saturday against nonconference foe Penn State Altoona. The coaching staff will also honor seniors Haynes and A.J. Smith before the meet.

Women's Swimming (2-6, 1-4 CAC)

The Blazers won the final two events to come from behind and defeat Gallaudet University, 94-82, Saturday in a Capital Athletic Conference meet at Huntsinger Aquatic Center. Hood trailed the Bison by one point heading into the final two events of the afternoon. Erica Hamor swam a season-best time of 1:16.19 to edge GU's Carlisle Robinson in the 100 breaststroke by 0.75 seconds. Hamor then anchored the 400 free relay squad which crushed the Bison foursome by 1:11.42 to give Hood its first CAC win of the season. Melissa Masino, Michelle Leggieri and Ashley Garyn (above) also won individual events for Hood. The Blazers host their final meet of the season Saturday against nonconference foe Penn State Altoona. The coaching staff will also honor seniors Garyn, Leggieri and Kara Cruice before the meet.
