Hood's riders competed in the last IHSA show of the season Saturday hosted by Goucher College on the campus of Garrison Forest School in Baltimore. Seniors Nadine Miglio and Emily Bernstein made their final appearances in the advanced walk-trot-canter division. Miglio drew a quiet, responsive mount and rode well in a competitive section finishing with a second place red ribbon. Bernstein also rode admirably finishing fourth with a white ribbon. Katie Geiger, a freshman from Richmond, Va., was the last competitor in advanced walk-trot-canter and won a first place blue ribbon. This was Geiger’s first blue in a college competition and Hood’s first blue in two years. Hood’s final competitor was Amy Thompson who placed fifth with a pink ribbon in the walk-trot division.

Hood won its first game in program history Wednesday defeating the visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College Griffins, 12-7. Hood put the skids on a 47-game losing streak dating back to the program's inception in 2005. Junior Sofiane Lazar had a hat trick while sophomore Nick Spicer and freshman Corey Roberts each netted two goals. Sophomore Nick O'Brien (above) made 14 saves in goal. Hector Montoya won 17-of-23 faceoffs in that game, including all 10 in the first half. Hood's contest Monday was postponed to due inclement weather but the Blazers will resume action Wednesday hosting the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III, the Salisbury University Sea Gulls, at 3:30 p.m. at Mount St. Mary's University.

Hood was idle last week but the Blazers have a pair of nonconference games on the docket this week. Julia Banks (above) and the Blazers host Lancaster Bible College Thursday before traveling to Washington, Pa., to take on the Washington & Jefferson College Presidents Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hood started the season at the Methodist University Early Bird Tournament but came up short in all four games. Leadoff hitter Sara Wastler collected a pair of hits and scored a run in the opener versus Roanoke College. Then against Fayetteville State University, freshman hurler Bridgette Ringley struck out eight batters and went the distance in the circle but the Blazers fell 8-4 to the Broncos. Wastler drove in both Blazer runs in game three versus Methodist while Emalie Stroup, Katherine Law (above) and Jen Lacy also collected base hits. In game four, Goldey-Beacom plated three runs in the first two innings and held the Blazers scoreless for the first five innings before Hood broke through with a run in the top of the sixth. Ashley Lenhart drove in Wastler with a single up the middle for Hood's lone run of the contest. Hood hosts two nonconference foes this weekend.

Hood competed in a nonscoring tri-meet with Montgomery-Rockville and Gallaudet University Saturday. Blair Ames won the 1500 meters and the 800 meters coming from behind in both races. William Andrews won the 3200 meters and was third in the 1500 meters. Jeff Lipinski won the hammer and was second in the javelin, with a personal record 124’ 2.” Freshman Conor Prachar won the long jump. All-CAC performer Ola Komolafe (above) was second in the 400 meter hurdles in his first attempt at the distance.

Two school records and numerous personal records were set Saturday as Hood traveled to Montgomery-Rockville for a tri-meet. Freshman Emma Arneson won the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash and finished second in the long jump. Her mark in the long jump (15’ 10”) exceeded senior Katie Thomas’ school record by an inch and a half. Sophomore Kayla Murphy won the hammer (105’ 5”) and tacked ten feet on to her previous school record. Danielle Sgro (above) won the women’s 3200 meters. Amanda Kwiatkowski was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a new personal best of almost a second.
