The Blazer men pushed their winning streak to three with a pair of nonconference victories. Hood overwhelmed visiting Penn State Abington Wednesday and recorded a number of school records in the process. The team scored a school record 20 goals, smashing the previous record of 12, and posted the first shutout in the program's five-year history. Six Blazers registered multi-goal games, led by Scott Thompson's four-goal performance. Keepers John Martin (above) and Nick O'Brien combined for the shutout making one save apiece. Then Saturday, the Blazers recorded a dramatic and improbable triumph over Washington & Jefferson in overtime. The Presidents scored twice in the final minute to send the contest into overtime, and Hood was forced to play two men down after consecutive one-minute penalties. First-year keeper Will Lane came up with a clutch save on Jackson Doyle's potential game-winning shot at the start of the extra session. Then, after staving off both penalties, the Blazers returned to full strength and the tandem of Trey Freeman and Sofiane Lazar hooked up for the game-winning score. Hood wraps up its five-game homestand this week with a pair of nonleague games.
