Freshman Mike Gallion scored the first goal of his Blazer career Wednesday against No. 1 Salisbury while sophomore keeper Nick O'Brien made a career-high 20 saves. Then Saturday, Hood fell to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents despite a career-best four-goal performance by freshman Troy Hubbard (above). Hood returns home Wednesday to host Randolph-Macon College in a nonconference game at 3:30 p.m.

Women's Lacrosse (3-2, 1-1 CAC)

Hood set a school record by amassing 21 goals against nonleague foe Lancaster Bible Thursday. Kelsey Blackwell (above) paced the Blazer attack with five goals and a pair of assists for seven points. Helene Butler and Kim Blocker also scored the first goals of their Hood careers against the Chargers. Goalie Sam Liptrap recorded a career-high 16 saves in Hood's loss at Washington & Jefferson. Hood put together another dominant effort over Hollins University Monday, matching the school record for goals in a game. Nine different Blazers scored in the rout. Hood is idle until March 18 when it hosts Trinity University (D.C.).

Hood picked up its first victory in dramatic fashion in the first game of a doubleheader with Allegheny College Sunday. Ashley Lenhart (above) doubled in Katherine Law in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap a three-run rally and give Hood the walk-off victory. Freshman Jacquie LeMar went 3-for-5 while Emalie Stroup and Lenhart both had multi-hit games to help Hood tally a season-high 11 base hits. Bridgette Ringley also earned her first pitching victory, working all eight innings and surrendering just two earned runs while striking out two. Hood returns to action Thursday at Arcadia University for a nonconference twinbill.

Phil Yerby (above) and the men's tennis team traveled to Hilton Head, S.C., for spring break and have a full slate of matches on the docket. Hood dropped its first two matches of the week against Ohio Wesleyan and Eastern Nazarene.

Caitlin Erickson (above) and the Blazers journeyed to Hilton Head, S.C., for their spring break trip. Hood has five matches slated for the week. The Blazers came up short to Olivet College in their first match but look to rebound against Transylvania Tuesday.

Hood placed second of seven teams at the Salisbury University Sea Gull Opener Saturday. Freshman Chris DiGangi cleared 11' 9.75" to win the men's pole vault. Matt Haynes had a strong day of throwing, finishing second in the hammer throw and then tossing two school records in the discus (108' 10") to finish third and the javelin (154' 4") to finish fourth. Justin Everett (above) triple jumped 41' 1.75" to earn third. Ola Komolafe erased the oldest men's record, running the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.4 to finish fifth.

Jessica Parrish won the 100-meter dash (12.6), the triple jump (35' 3") and anchored Hood's 4x100-meter relay to victory at the 2009 Sea Gull Opener hosted by Salisbury University. New school records were set in all three events. Parrish also picked up a fourth place finish in the long jump. Erica Hamor repeated as women's javelin champion throwing 81' 9.5". Apart from Parrish's efforts, new school records abounded. Katie Thomas (above) set a new mark in the women's 100 meter hurdles (17.4) while finishing third. Kayla Murphy tossed the discus 87' 9" for the ninth and final school record on the day. Thomas, Emma Arneson and Mollie Widdowson joined Parrish on the school-record-setting 4x100 relay team.
