The Blazers won back-to-back games last week to win the Rinso Marquette Tournament for the second time in program history. In Friday’s first round game, Ryan Junghans led Hood with 25 points to defeat New Jersey City, 80-67. Tim Abercrombie had 13 points and J’Air Brady finished with 11, while Jeff Willison (above) matched his career-high with 18 points in the win. The Blazers’ momentum continued into Saturday, when Hood took the championship game over Lebanon Valley, 78-70. With a game-high 19 points, Junghans was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Abercrombie, who had seven points, nine rebounds and eight assists, was also selected to the all-tournament team.

Hood’s women’s basketball team finished the week with three setbacks on the road – the first, a 61-42 loss to Averett University. Jen Willison led the Blazers with 14 points and Allyson Lethbridge had 10. Hood went on to compete in the Rose City Classic at Drew University Saturday, where the Blazers fell to Drew in the first round, 73-25, sending them to Sunday’s consolation game against Keystone. Down by as many 13, Hood rallied to tie the game in in the second half but could not pull off their first win of the season, losing 63-60. Lethbridge led Hood with a season-high 18 points, while Jessica Parrish (above) and Sara Wastler had 13 and 10, respectively.

Chris Nemecek lowered his school record in the 100 fly by 0.02 (55.69) at the Randolph-Macon Invitational Friday and Saturday, competing against the Randolph-Macon men's club team. Nemecek also won the 500 free, clocking in at 5:17.57. Matt Haynes (above) took first in the 50 free (22.74) and the 100 back (59.57), while Chris Moreland finished second in both the 100 fly (59.27) and the 100 back (1:02.95) and A.J. Smith won the 100 breast (1:28.19). Hood’s next meet is scheduled for Jan. 10 against Frostburg State University and Salisbury University at home.

Hood’s women’s swim team placed fifth of seven teams at the Randolph-Macon Invitational Friday and Saturday. Erica Hamor was the top individual scorer for the Blazers, finishing seventh in the 400 IM (5:22.74), ninth in the 200 breast (2:53.18) and 14th in the 100 fly (1:10.24). Michelle Leggieri took 11th in the 100 free (1:00.26) and 13th in the 50 free (27.88), while Ashley Garyn (above) came in 14th in the 100 free (1:02.05) and 15th in the 500 free (6:07.46).
Hood’s next meet is scheduled for Jan. 10 against Frostburg State University and Salisbury University at home.
