The equestrian team participated in the IHSA hosted by Mount St. Mary’s College at Goucher College in Baltimore Saturday. Freshman Katie Geiger and sophomore Amy Thompson rode for Hood in their first ever IHSA Show. Geiger rode in the advanced walk-trot-canter division while Thompson rode in the walk-trot division. Senior co-captain Emily Bernstein also had a good ride in the advanced walk-trot-canter division. The Blazers next travel to the College of William and Mary on Sunday, Nov. 2.

The Blazers lost their second game of the season on penalty strokes, dropping a 2-1 decision at Wilson College Monday. Wilson led 1-0 until the 62nd minute when Hood’s Lauren Perzan scored unassisted. After three scoreless overtime periods, Wilson came out on top, converting one of its four penalty strokes. The Blazers lost 3-1 at Stevenson University Wednesday. Brandy Noel scored Hood’s lone goal and Crystal Parker registered the assist along with two defensive saves. Then on Saturday, Jen Lacy (above) put forth a valiant effort in the cage with 10 stops but the Blazers fell 6-0 at home.

Hood sophomore Andy Alger tied for 14th place out of 82 golfers at the Messiah College Invitational at the Blue Ridge Country Club Wednesday. Alger finished just five strokes behind the top finisher, with a 78 (6-over-par). Sophomore Evan Chaney also finished the course for Hood with a 92 (20-over-par). Alger was also Hood's lone competitor at the Bent Creek Invitational. He finished 48th out of 92 competitors with a score of 84. Hood has now concluded its fall slate of matches.

Junior Adam Gilbert (above) scored his first career goal to lead Hood over Gallaudet, 2-1, in overtime Saturday, giving the Blazers their first CAC win of the season. J.T. Smaldore put the Blazers up 1-0 on a second-half penalty kick. However, the Bison managed to score with eight seconds remaining in regulation to send the match into overtime. Hood outshot Gallaudet 34-4 in an intense physical battle that featured five yellow cards and a Bison ejection. Hood’s next match is scheduled for Thursday at St. Mary’s College (Md).

Hood stands at the No. 6 spot in the Capital Athletic Conference after it extended its unbeaten streak to seven games this week. On Thursday, the Blazers hosted Goucher in a match that ended in a 2-2 tie in overtime. Freshman Jessica Devine scored both of Hood’s goals, while Carlie Colella (above) and Abby Dyjack each tallied an assist. Devine and Colella came through for the Blazers once again on Wednesday, each scoring a goal to help Hood defeat Shenandoah, 2-0. Cara Jordan assisted Colella and Rachelle Buhrman had three saves in goal. On Saturday, Colella scored her seventh goal of the season to lift the Blazers over Washington College (Md.), 3-1. Colella, now with 22 points on the year, ranks sixth all-time at Hood for points in a single season. Jordan rounded out the Blazers’ scoring with two goals against Washington College, while Devine had one assist.

The Blazers fell to McDaniel College, 6-3, in their second match of the fall season. Carter Reitman registered Hood’s only singles victory, winning at the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 6-1, over Daniell Keltz. Brothers David and Andrew Blowe (above) won at the No. 1 doubles spot, 8-2, while Reitman and Garrett Loomer teamed up to win at the No. 2 spot, 8-5. Hood's final match of the fall is Tuesday at Shepherd University.

Women's Tennis (3-1, 0-0 CAC)

Goucher College handed the Blazers their first loss of the fall season Friday by a score of 6-3. Jillian Elkaim (above) won 6-4, 6-2, over Tanya Cooley at the No. 1 singles spot to remain undefeated this season. Dani Hunt was Hood’s other victorious singles player, taking the No. 6 singles match over Andrea Stephaich, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8). In doubles competition, Caitlin Erickson and Emily Schrodel defeated Mara Bergman and Stephaich, 8-4. The Blazers rolled over the McDaniel College Green Terror Monday after sweeping the doubles matches and taking five of six singles matches. Hood travels to Shepherd University Tuesday to wrap up its fall slate.

Volleyball (1-12, 0-2 CAC)

Despite an all-out effort by Hood in the second set, Salisbury blanked the Blazers 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-6) Wednesday at Gambrill Gymnasium. Kristina Straub led Hood with four kills, nine assists, and five digs, while Chelsea Weaver and Ashley Burns also registered four kills apiece. On the defensive end, Weaver and Lena Bushrod each came up with seven digs apiece in the losing cause. Kristan Hawkins (above) chipped in with two kills, two digs and two assists. Hood hosts Gallaudet University Tuesday before traveling to Goucher Thursday.
