Freshman Megan Cahill scored a goal and had an assist in an 0-2 week for the Blazers. Cahill's first career assist came on a goal by sophomore Sam Liptrap (above) in the first 30 seconds of Thursday's game at the University of Mary Washington. Cahill also scored Hood's lone goal against Cedar Crest College Sunday. The Blazers entertain Marywood University in a nonleague game Friday.

Junior Aaron Prescott shot an 11-over 82 and was the top finisher for the Blazers, who traveled to the Bent Creek Country Club Monday for the Bent Creek Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall College. Prescott finished in a tie for 21st out of 94 golfers at the 19-team invitational. Fellow juniors Andy Alger and Evan Chaney carded an 86 and 87, respectively. Sophomore Tyler Fairley (105) and freshman Connor McKenna (above) (119) comprised the remainder of the Hood squad at this tournament as the Blazers wrapped up their fall slate.

Freshman William Lane made seven saves against St. Mary's College (Md.) Tuesday in the Blazers' home finale. The squad will hit the road for its final five regular season matches, beginning with a Monday trip to Huntingdon, Pa., to take on the Juniata College Eagles. Six different players have contributed goals this fall, including two apiece by senior Corey DeMaster, sophomore Mike Yencho (above) and freshman Naseem Zietoon.

Hood saw its six-game unbeaten streak come to an end Tuesday at Catholic University. The Blazers allowed four goals, matching a season-high. The Blazers host Stevenson University Wednesday in a rematch of last season's Capital Athletic Conference tournament game that was decided by penalty kicks and saw Hood record its first-ever CAC playoff win. Junior Alexa Hubicki, Liz Rakowski '09 and sophomore Casey Miller all converted their penalty kick opportunities in that shootout, lifting the Blazers to the dramatic victory. Currently in second place in the conference, the Mustangs bring a four-game winning streak into Wednesday's tilt, while senior Nikki Antalffy (above) and the Blazers look to snap a two-game slide and climb out of a sixth-place tie with Wesley College.

Fall season complete

Sophomore Carter Reitman, junior Mike Hardman, senior David Blowe and sophomore Andrew Blowe (above) were all winners in their respective singles matches as the Blazers evened their fall record at 2-2. Hardman finished the fall with a perfect 4-0 mark, all at the second singles position. The doubles tandem of Reitman and Hardman also remained unbeaten with a decisive 8-1 victory over Shepherd's Taylor Boyle and Nathan Jones. The Blowe brothers knocked off Kent Thomas and David Leonard for their second doubles win of the fall.

The Blazers suffered three setbacks last week to wrap up the fall docket. Senior Jillian Elkaim downed Miku White from the College of Notre Dame in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) and teamed with sophomore Emily Shrodel (above) to defeat White and Kelcy Bye, 8-2, at first doubles. The Blazers will resume play in the spring.

The Blazers won back-to-back matches for the first time since October 2006 with victories over Trinity University (D.C.) and Penn State Harrisburg Saturday. Led by junior Kristina Straub's 12 kills, the Blazers put down a season-high 41 kills in a four-set win over the Nittany Lions. With the win, the Blazers avenged a five-set loss to PSU Harrisburg from earlier in the season. Junior Chelsea Weaver registered a career-high 36 digs opposite the Nittany Lions while freshman Brittany Tribett's 34 assists in that match were also a career-high. Straub finished with a double-double (12 kills and 15 digs). Freshman Brittany Lethbridge (above) notched a season-high with 17 digs in the Harrisburg match. The Blazers journey to Salisbury, Md., Thursday to take on the top team in the Capital Athletic Conference, the Salisbury University Sea Gulls. Then Saturday, the team will host Trinity and Randolph College in a tri-match at Gambrill Gymnasium beginning at noon.
