Oct. 18 Hood College Invitational (at Heritage Farm Park)

The Blazers host the second annual Hood College Invitational Saturday at Heritage Farm Park in Walkersville beginning at 11 a.m. Hood will entertain squads from 11 area colleges including Capital Athletic Conference rivals Wesley College, Gallaudet University and Marymount University. Hood will honor seniors Ben Caplins (above), Will Emory, Mattia Mabellini and Nick Manning during the awards ceremony.

The Blazers hit the road for a pair of contests this week. Hood took the University of Mary Washington to the wire Thursday in a Capital Athletic Conference game. The Eagles scored a late goal with only 1:14 showing on the clock to clinch the victory. Junior Brandy Noel and senior Jess Head (above) scored for the Blazers. Noel notched her team-best fourth goal of the fall while Head tallied the third score of her Blazer career.

Men's Soccer (4-9, 1-4 CAC)

Oct. 18 vs. Salisbury University 3 p.m.

Junior Carlin Rabie registered his second goal of the season in the final three seconds of regulation against St. Mary's College (Md.) Wednesday for Hood's lone score of the afternoon. Junior Shawn Fernholz turned away 10 Seahawk shot attempts on the day. Saturday Hood managed three shots on goal, all by freshman Christopher Mendez (above), against Wesley College in another CAC contest. The Blazers have three home games left on the docket, the first against Salisbury University Saturday at Thomas Athletic Field.

Women's Soccer (8-5-1, 3-3 CAC)

Oct. 18 vs. Salisbury University 1 p.m.

Hood eclipsed its win total from 2007 with a 2-0 shutout over SUNY Purchase Sunday. Freshman Jessica Devine (above) knocked in both of Hood's scores against the Panthers to give her a team-high nine goals on the season. The Blazers are only five goals away from breaking the school record for goals in a season (46). Hood, currently tied for third with York College (Pa.) in the Capital Athletic Conference standings with nine points, entertains fifth-place Salisbury University Saturday.

Volleyball (1-14, 0-6 CAC)

The Blazers dropped a pair of matches last week to Gallaudet University and Goucher College. Junior Ashley Burns put down seven kills against the Gophers while Chelsea Weaver (above) added six. Lena Bushrod amassed 18 digs and Kristina Straub set up 12 Blazers kills. Hood looks to snap its four-match losing skid Tuesday at Lancaster Bible College.
