The Blazers hosted their second annual Hood College Cross Country Open Saturday at Heritage Farm Park, taking third place out of seven teams. Junior William Andrews paced the Blazers, finishing eighth overall with a time of 28:56. Senior Nick Manning was Hood’s second finisher, clocking in at 29:41 for 16th place. Rounding out the scoring for Hood were juniors Blair Ames (above) (29:55) and Brendan Greenlees (30:06) and senior Mattia Mabellini (31:06). Hood hosts five more teams in an invitational on campus Saturday.

Led by senior Danielle Sgro (above), Hood finished third of six teams in its second annual Hood College Open at Heritage Farm Park. Sgro placed fourth overall out of 50 runners, completing the course in 25:54. Following Sgro were freshmen Maria Moss (27:42) and Sarah Morris (27:53), sophomore Sam Smith (30:13), and senior Kelly Keyser (32:17). Hood hosts five more teams in an invitational on campus Saturday.

Hood’s field hockey team finished the week with a pair of setbacks to Goucher College and St. Mary's College (Md.). Senior goalie Jen Lacy combined for 23 saves on the week and has now recorded double-figure save totals in five straight outings. Lacey Kelly and Jen Graham (above) took Hood’s two shots against the Gophers while Kelley, Crystal Parker and Jess Head registered shots versus the Seahawks. The Blazers look to snap a nine-game losing streak when they travel to Shenandoah University Monday and wrap up the season Saturday hosting St. Vincent College. Hood will recognize its three seniors, Jess Head, Jen Lacy and Crystal Parker, before Saturday's game.

Junior goalie Shawn Fernholz (above) had a season-high 15 saves in Hood’s 6-0 loss to Salisbury University on Saturday. The Sea Gulls outshot Hood 46-2 in the Capital Athletic Conference matchup. Junior Corey DeMaster and sophomore James Larrimore accounted for both Hood shots. The Blazers return to action Wednesday at home against conference opponent Stevenson University and will recognize seniors Brandon Garton and Tom Sprague before the contest.

The Blazers were unable to convert any of their 10 shots in Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Salisbury University. Sophomore Cara Jordan led Hood with four shots while freshman Jessica Devine had three. Sophomore Rachelle Buhrman (above) recorded five saves for the Blazers and freshman Kirsten Cacciola had two. Hood clinched a spot in the six-team Capital Athletic Conference tournament over the weekend and resumes action Monday against Lancaster Bible College at home. The CAC tournament begins Saturday, Nov. 1.

Sophomore Kristina Straub tallied her second double-double of the year with 13 kills and 16 assists in Hood’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Lancaster Bible College Tuesday. The Blazers dropped the first two sets but rallied to take the match to a deciding fifth set, pulling off their second win of the season. Sophomore Chelsea Weaver and junior Ashley Burns each had eight kills while senior Jamie Gardner had seven and junior Leah Garland (above) tallied 17 assists. On the defensive end, sophomore Lena Bushrod recorded 36 digs, the program’s third-highest single-match total. Hood hosts York College (Pa.) Wednesday in its only match of the week.
